Jackson County Jail
Is Second In Survey
In a recent news release from
W ashington ,the federal bureau
of prisons the Jackson county
jail at Medford was rated second
in the state, w ith the Portland
city jail ranking highest. Thirty-
two of the states 39 jails were
rated unfit for federal prisoners.
The federal bureau’s inspector
rates jails on adm inistration, dis­
cipline, building and equipm ent,
personnel, food, medical service,
hospital facilities, cleanliness and
sanitation, personal hygiene, re­
habilitation, employyment and in­
dustries and religious instruction
The inspector is required to an ­
swer 10 pages of questions and
make a complete personal obser­
vation report. Only jails with rat­
ings of 50 per cent or better are
deemed fit for federal prisoners
and those under 50 per cent are
"condemned” by the FBP.
It was stated that inspections
were made several years ago.
Local officials have no record of
an inspection being made of the
county jail in recent years.

Death came to Mi's. Florence
Agnes Fletcher Friday morning,
October 12, after an illness of a
year and a half. She was born
April 12, 1894 at Fedonia, K an­
sas. Surviving are three children,
Ralph E. Fletcher, Robert L.
Fletcher and Frances L. H atha­
way, all of Seattle. There are
three brothers, Ira G. Short, Ke-
wa, Washington, Fay B. Short,
Houston, B. C., and John F. Short
Arlington, Kansas and two sist­
ers, Mrs. Flossie D. Hoggarth,
Edmonds, Washington and Mrs.
