We believe in the old uduge that a bird in the bund is worth two in the bush and we hud better get the Plaza corner fixed up while the said highway department is in the mood. < v < We doubt if there Is any way to compel the highway department to put up money for a project they don't like. They might turn around und put the highway en tirely out of the busines district, and brother, should that happen, Ashland will suffer. We have known of a few small towns that were ruined because the highway or railroad wus rerouted away from them. Soon another town grew up along the new route, leaving the old part of town to depreciate and even disappear. Roland Harks, principal at the Junior high school, reported this week that the paper drive, which ended last Thursday was very successsful, with 50,480 pounds of paper turned in .The drive was entirely under direction of the Junior High school this year. The drive developed into a race between rooms to get the largest amount of paper, and fin al recounting showed Miss Ken nedy’s 7B2 room ahead with 8500 pounds and Mr. Mittag’s 8B3 se cond with 5300 pounds. Some $300 will be realized from the sale of the waste paper and will go into the student body fund to be used for school needs. “The students and the faculty wish to thank the townspeople for their co-operation,” stated Mr. Pdrks. > *— •»— — .
