Mrs. Emma Morris was called to Chico last week to attend the funeral of a sister in law who passed away suddenly. Hazel Skeeters left Friday morning for Portland where she will receive medical treatment for her eyes. Russell Combest of the Marines who has been stationed at San Francisco during the conference is home for a short while visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Straus have purchased the Bert Sim­ mons property and will take pos­ session soon. Mr. and Mrs. Knapp have been occupying the place the past six months. Taggart, executive officer, Separation Center, Fort Lewis, Wash., for the rescue and salvage of critical medical sup­ ples, as an American ship was splitting in two at Milne Bay, New Guinea. The 23-year-old doughboy who was a constituent of amphibious landing at Holland- dia and Biak, as well, is the eld- est foi-i r sons of Mr. and Mrs. Bert H. Crosby, 142 N. Main, serving in the armed forces. A fifth son, 1st Lt. Robert W. Rid­ dle, was awarded, the Pui-ple Heart posthumously in the Phil­ ippines. He was graduated from Artillery O.C.S. in Australia. After three years in the Pacific theatre of operations, and fifty- six months in the service, Cpl Riddle expects to attend voca­ tional school.
