With the 25th Infantry (Tropic
Lightning) Division on Luzon:—
From the battlegrounds of north-
eri Luzon where the veteran 25th
Division is now in its fifth conse­
cutive month of action against
the Japanesse, comes word of the
promotion of Louis A. Donelan,
son of Clem Donelan Myrtle
Creek to private first class.
A veteran of the 25th Division’s
battles on the Central Luzon
Hains and the recent fierce,
bloody action in the Caraballo
mountains as the "Tropic Lightn­
ing" troops ;nched their way to
the important Balete Pass and on
to Santa Fe. Pfc. Donelan is a
mechanic on an M-7 Gun Carr­
iage, the mobile artillery of the
infantry that has been blasting
the Nips on Luzon.
The 25th Division, commanded
by Major General Charles L.
Mullins, Jr., has experienced
more than three and on half years
overseas service ¡n this war. They
were present at the Pearl Harbor
attack and lated went into action
against the Japanese on Guadal­
canal, New Georgia, and Vella
LaVella in the Solomon Islands.
I t was because of their distingu­
ished services in boiomon ju n ­
gle lighting that they were dub­
bed the “Tropic Lightning” Divi­
sion.
Before entering the army Pfc.
Donelan was employed by the
Conley Logging Company, Ash­
land, Oregon.
