Arrested on Wednesday, the 24th was Jack B. Wagner, federal meat inspector on a charge of parking his car in a reserved parking zone. Three dolars and $2.50 costs were ass­ essed against him, which were paid. Dwaine Dell Morrison of Ash­ land was arrested on a charge of reckless driving and was fined the minimum $25.00 and $2.50 costs and was given a 10-day sus­ pended jail sentence on condi­ tion of good behavior and that his driver’s license be revoked for one year. Bertha Rose Freese was asses­ sed $25 and $10 costs on a charge of trespassing and given 10 days in jail. The jail sentence was sus­ pended on payment of the fine, following good behavior and on condition that she repair and pay for damages on the .J. H. Like's property. Wm. Delaney oi Routs 2, Ash­ land was fined $12.50 and was given a 10 day jail sentence for being drunk and disorderly. The jail sentence was suspended on good behavior, and providing that he did no driving until he secured a driver’s license. Robert Emmett Hatch, star route, was fined $12.50 and given five days in jail on a drunk and disorderly charge. The jail sen­ tence was suspended when the fine was paid. Nathan Mullock Hallock was assessed $12.50 for being drunk and disorderly and Frank Ray­ mond Close of route 1, Ashland was fined $12.50 and $2.50 costs on a charge of not having a tail light on his truck. ---------- o---------- L io n s C lub H e a r s P a rk D ir e c to r T u es. At the weekly meeting of the Lions club Tuesday evening, Chester Correy, director of work in the Ashland parks, gave an interesting talk telling of the work carried on in the parks of Ashland and some of the plans the park commission has for the future. In commenting on future pluns he said that all pluns are of course limited by the funds avail­ able and at present only $9,200 is bodgeted for the Ashland parks, through tuxes, etc., but pluns are complete for post war projects, if and when money is available through public works projects, or otherwise, which will make the Ashland parks even more widely known than they are now. Money and manpower is too limited ut present to do much other than keep the park up, Mr. Correy stated. Air Cadet Harlalee Wilson was called home on emergency leave this week because of the illness of his grandmother in Portland, coming in from Amarillo, Texas, Saturday to spend a day or so with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Wilson at 666 Iowa street before going on to Portland to visit with his grandmother. Cadet Wilson left last August to join the air corps and is taking his preliminary training and is now waiting to begin his actual flying work. He is widely known in Ashland as he has gone through the school system here, taking a very active part in the musical side of school activities, he being a violinist of note in this area. Soon after arriving at his Texas base, he became a member of the base orchestra and not long ago, received an appointment to play with the Amarillo Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he is justly proud. Cadet Wilson returned from Portland Wednesday even­ ing to spend a few days here at Ashland before returning to his base, and is spending part of his t i m e renewing acquaintances with friends about town, who were glad to see him home. Mrs. Alice Kent came in last Friday from Oakland, California, to spend a few days visiting with her friends, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Emmett on Ashland Mine road. Shaffer, 401 Beach street, left for the San Diego “boot” camp January 29, immediately following his enlist­ ment. He previously served from 1937 to 1940, when he was on duty aboard the USS Idaho. In civil life Shaffer was employ e das a truck driver in Ashland. His wife, Mrs. Miriam L. Shaffer, and two children live at the local addresR. Business callers i n Ashland Monday were Robert Holmes and Glen Pendergast, both Southern Pacific officials from Medford. Three carloads of young people from the Methodist Church went to Medford on Sunday afternoon to attend a Methodist Fellowship Rally and worship service. The Medford groups were hosts and provided “eats” at 6 o'clock. This was followed by a worship ser­ vice in the Little Chapel. The young folks stayed for the even­ ing service of music by the Rust College Negro sextet. These two groups of young folks meet for worship in their church in Ash­ land each Sunday evening at 6:15. Mr. and Mrs. John Billings are the sponsors of the senior group, and Mrs. Alma Baker and Mrs. G. W. Bruce are the sponsors for the Intermediate group. Mr. James M. Spencer, State Water Master, from Hermiston, Oregon has been visiting at the home of Donald M. Spencer, dur­ ing the past week end. While here Mr. Spencer accepted the position as Manager of the Med­ ford Irrigation District, and will make his home in Medford, some time in February. Mr. Spencer is well known in Ashland, as a graduate from Ash­ land high, and was one of the Engineers who constructed the big Reeder Gulch Dam, for our Mr. and Mrs. Ixniis Dodge left last week for Terra Bella, Calif­ ornia where they plan to spend a few weeks in resting and taking a vacation.
