Pauline Finnell reported interest­

Billy Dunstan, Jacksonvi 11 e
Green Guard, was awarded 5th
place prize upon submitting his
season’s fire prevention activity
record and a theme on his exper­
iences in the Oregon woods.
This is the second citation for
Billy within, the year, he being
previously cited for meritorious
services in the suppression of a
fire.
B illy’s interest is typical of 20,-
000 Green Guards in Oregon, who
are aiding materially in the pub­
lic program to reduce the losses
from man made fires.
Fifth place award consists af a
choice between $5 in war saving
stamps or a Green Guard Sweat­
er.

Minnie Fleener
Mrs. Minnie Viola Fleener died
suddenly at her home at 145
Oberlin street Friday morning
following a sudden heart attack
which struck her as she was re­
turning from the weekly meeting

I evening. Services were held at
ithe Litwiller Funeral Home Tues
1 day afternoon at 2 o’clock with
the Rev. George M. Shuman of­
ficiating. Services were held un­
der auspices of the Rebekah
Lodge of which she had been a
long time member. Interment
was made in the fumily plot in
the Hagardine cemetery.
The decesed was born in John­
ston, Pennsylvania on December
28, 1868. In 1882 she came with
her parents to Joseph, Oregon.
She was married to Thomas N.
Fleener on February 14, 1886. He
died March 26, 1940.
Mr. and Mrs. Fleener made
their home at Joseph, for a num­
ber of years, after which they
moved into several communities
before coming to Ashland in 1919
where they have since made their
home.
Two children survive Mrs.
Fleener; Jesse Fleener of Paulsbo
Wash, and Gertrude Harris, of
Bremerton, Wash., one brother,
Frank Kernan of Pendleton,
three grandchildren and four
great grandchildren.
Mrs. Fleener was a member of
the Presbyterian church, of the
Rebekah Lodge, of the Past
Noble Grands club of the Town­
send Club and the Womans Re­
lief Corps.
Both members of the Rebekah
lodge and the daughters of Union
Veterans attended the services in
a body.

Mr. und Mrs. Will Kiser huve
received word officially that
their foster-son, Dan Smith, was
killed in action in France on Oct­
ober 2, 1944. Pvt. Smith entered
th eservlce January 10, 1941. lie
went across in July. Mrs. Kiser is
i nthe hospital recovering from a
major operation. She is grief
stricken at the news.
