Three times as W illits deposiied the wounded he pleaded, "Listen, Surge, If this man needs a blood transfusion I want to give it." The surgeon as sured him that If need arose, his proffer would be accepted, but, privately, " I f young Willits had been taken up on each of his o f fers he would have needed sev eral transfusions himself; but the incident was typical of the spirit of the Boise men that night to ward less fortunate shipmates. Seaman W illits is still in fhe Navy, but not now on the Boise. 1 While she was being repaired, W illits was assigned to a sub chaser, where he now is on duty. Morris' book describing the part of the Boise in the struggle for the Solomons is now in the local public library, according to Miss Cora Mason, librarian, and will soon be catalogued and available.
