Modern planes depend upon elec
tricity for control in (light ns well
as the operation of many other
pieces of equipment. An interest
ing piece of equipment recently
perfected is an electrically heated
flying suit, which is regarded as a
necessity on high altitude flights.
W ithout this protection fliers
would be extremely uncomfortable
and would risk death from expo
sure. The suit consists of a jacket,
trousers, shoes and gloves, and is
made of strong and durable fab
rics. In order to heat the suit elec
tric circuits are built into the
clothing, and by plugging into
power lines a constant source of
electricity is supplied. This con
stan t source of electrical power is
provided by an Aerolectric power
plant, which is actually a flying
power station, providing an inde
pendent source of electricity not
only for heating the suit, but for
all the electrical equipm ent. on
large planes. -
