ELKS DROP OUT
OF TOURNEY AS
MEDFORD WINS
'THE Ashland Elks dropped out
of the district play-offs in
Klamath Falls last night when
they were turned back 9 to 2 by
an all-star team playing under the
name of Wooden Box of Medford.
It looked a wee might hopeful
as the Elks took to the field first
and turned down the Boxers with
no hits, no runs, no errors and
one walk When they took their
tum at the plate Harris popped
out, Moore walked. King popped
out, Barksdale got on by a field
ers choice as an attempt was made
to catch Moore, who scored a
moment later on Learnings blow
which turned out to be an error
on the Boxer second baseman.
Their lead was short Hved,
however, for Wray, the third man
up for Medford in the second in
ning, walked and Piche sent him
home on a circuit clout to left
center. Leonard Patterson then
went to the plate and took the
first pitch for a home run in al
most exactly the same place as
Piche’s. The Elks were blanked
in their half of the third and the
Medfords forged further ahead on
Pecheco’s homer to left-center.
The Elks' biggest chance came
in the fifth when they got three
hits but could get x>nly one run
across. Carl Harris was hit by
Barksdale's batted ball as be
stood on third base and was auto
matically out.
Dick Mole started on the mound
for the Elks and worked three and
one-third innings before the Box
ers got next to his style of de
livery. Here Darby O'Toole went
in and held the Boxers to only
two blows the rest of the contest.
