Waterspout Formation
Waterspouts at sea occur when op
posite wAnds of different tempera
tures meet in the upper atmosphere,
whereby a greater amount of vapor
is condensed into a thick black
cloud, to which a vertical motion is
given. A partial vacuum is creat
ed in the center, which draws up
the water in its vortex. When the
waterspout has played itself out, it
commences to disappear at the
base, gradually traveling upward.

England's Romantic Rocks
Between the Scilly islands and
Land's End is a cluster of rocks
known as the Seven Stones, but
called “the City” by people on the
tpa inland. They represent all that
is left of Lyonesse. the Arthurian
land of Tristan, which finally went
to the bottom of the sea in the great
storm of A. D. 109}.

Robinson Crusoe
The little Scottish village of Largo
entertains hundreds of visitors ev
ery year who come to see where
Alexander Selkirk, the prototype of
Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe, was born.
He has a statue near the harbor,
and visitors may stay at the Cruso«
hotel.

Cheerful News
“Ah,” said a seedy-looking indi
vidual who got into conversation in
a railway carriage.
"I've seen some changes. 1 was
once a doctor with a large practice,
but owing to one little slip my pa
tients began to leave me.”
"What was the slip?"
"In filling in a death certificate
