The Medford Craters deadlocked
the Shaughnessy playoff finals of
the Southern Oregon baseball
league last Sunday in Medford
when they blasted red-headed
Steve Crippen of the Grants Pass
Merchants for nine hits and six
runs in his five innings of mound
duty and then turned on the steam
at the expense of Chuck Ostrom,
collecting five safe blows and five
runs to boost an 11 to 9 victory.
Grants Pass won the first game of
the three-game series 8 to 0.
It was the Craters' first win
over the Climate City club in four
starts.
Harry Leggett, who pitched the
distance for Medford, _ gave up 14
hits, all of them in the last three
innings. He was backed by ex
cellent fielding and sensational
baserunning greatly aided in the
Crater win.
The third and deciding game of
the series will be played in Grants
Pass next Sunday.

council executive board met Mon
day. Sept. 18, at the home of the
county president, Mrs H. H El-
hart in Ashland. All parts of the
county were represented by the
26 state, county and local officers
and chairmen present.
Mrs. B. C. Forsythe of Ashland,
state vice president, gave a report
of the state board meeting which
she attended in Portland last week.
Mrs. J. K. Hoey of Medford, state
and county chairman for the Na
tional Parent-Teacher magazine,
and Mrs. W. A. Holloway of Med
ford, state music chairman, gave
pep talks. Discussions and reports
were presented by the county
chairmen of publicity, publications,
music, summer round-up and leg
islation.
Announcement was made of the
annual school of instruction to be
held in Medford Thursday, Oct
19, with the state president. Mrs.
C. W. Walls of Portland, presiding.
The regular October meeting of
the county council is to be com
bined with the school of instruc
tion. A large attendance of offi
cers, chairmen and lay members is
urged. Definite place of meeting
in Medford will be announced later.
