' ------------ •------------ Applewhite Chosen As Donaugh Booster Guy Applewhite was chosen chairman of the Carl Donaugh- for-senate committee in Ashland when the committee was formed last week. Applewhite is one of the prominent democrats of the Ashland district. Donaugh is a candidate for the democratic nomination to the sen ate and has served for several years as federal district attorney for Oregon, making an outstand ing record. ------------ •------------ Schermerhorn Tells Reasons for Sheriff Candidacy On Visit Gordon L. Schermerhorn, candi date for nomination for sheriff on the democratic ticket, was in Ash land yesterday and in explaining hla candidacy said he was seeking vindication. "Everybody in' this county knows of my case," Schermerhorn said. "I was accused and convicted of a crime of which I had no knowledge and in which I had no part. "I have been urged by my friends, all influential citizens, to run for sheriff again to vindicate myself. "While In prison I lost my build ing and farm. You can't earn money to pay interest and taxes while in prison and I am going to run for sheriff again." At present about 20 men are employed at the factory. Of that number, only eight are from out of town and worked under the present owner in Grants Pass and Medford. Five of those men are married and will bring their fam ilies to Ashland to make their homes.
