This reminds me of an Incident
that occurred a year or two ago.
One of my neighbors, upon find
ing a nest full of mother!»*«* bird-
lings, sought to feed them; but
whenever his loving hand would
draw near enough to the neat, the
open mouths would Instinctively
close. When he tried leaving food
on the edge of the nest, they
would not touch it Had not my
neighbor been thoughtful enough
to put the birdlings into an al
ready well filled nest where they
were fed by the mother of another
brood, those blrdlings would have
died of starvation
1 have related this incident in
the hop»- that it will help to illus
trate why everyone did not accept
Jesus as the true representative of
God. They dearly longed, even
prayed, for the promised .Messiah
who, they believed, would come in
a particular, predetermined, hu
manly-outlined way. But because
He came quite differently; be
cause He came meekly illustrating
the power of impartial, divine love
to free the people from mental
bondage to sin, disease and death,
instead of a warlike monarch who
would free the nation from po
litical bendage to Rome, they mis
understood 'lis loving miss on and
rejected 11.« blessings H« came
to bestow upon them
It is this same mental attitude
which today prevents some per
sons, even when in great need,
from accept.i rg the helping hand
of Christian Science, notwith-

standing tl e proofs of healing
whic 1 it presents. Their precon-
ceived notions about the manner
of Christ's reappearing would
seem still to be more important
than the supplying of their hu
man needs. Though spiritually
famished, they would starve rath
er than accept, from the hand of a
stranger, the absolute truth that
comforts and heals and saves.
Now, my friends, who among
you wants to shut out helpful
ness? Who wants to permit hiH
fears, his doubts, and his suspic
ions to rob him of the limitless
opportunities for gw d which
Christian Science leveala? Thanks
to Mary Baker Eddy, never again
need anyone starve spiritually;
for she has shown us that the
bread of life Is always at hand for
the asking. She has shown that
the truth explained and proved by
the Master is omnipresent.
Through her teaching, thia truth
now is available to all who are
willing to receive ft.
