VISIT IN HAMMOND
Major and Mrs. H R Jordan,
their daughter, and Mrs. Jordan's
sister. Mrs Walton, left Thursday
for Hammond. Ore., near Fort
Stevens at mouth of the Colum
bia river, where they will visit
the mother of Mrs. Jordan and
Mrs. Walton. Mrs. Jordan intends
to remain there for the rest of
the month, but others in the party
will return in a few days.

Major H. D. Bagnall, army re
cruiting officer in Portland, an
nounced today the enlistment in
the United States army of Harold
F. Vicars, son of Klick Vicars,
Ashland.
Vicars applied for enlistment at
the Medford recruiting office Aug
ust 21 and was tentatively ac
cepted on that date by Sergeant
Willis S. Estep, in charge there.
After successfully passing the fin
al regular army examinations in
San Francisco, he was enlisted for
service with the motorized field
artillery in Hawaii.
Major Bagnall also announced
that young Vicars will leave for
his station in Hawaii early in Sep
tember and that he will be sta
tioned there for the first two years
of his enlistment only, returning
at the expiration of that time to
the United States for reassign
ment on the west coast.
• Louis Ulrich of Medford was a
business visitor here Tuesday.
