A STRANGE BUT WELCOME SOUND!
Fortunately, the Miner office is located directly
across the street from Ashland's newest building ac
tivity—the New Lithia theater which is last taking
form.
Although heretofore a noise heard but briefly and
seldom, there is something pleasant about the day-
after-day sound of hammers pounding on raw lumber.
Tap-tap-tap they go, eight hours a day. supplemented
by the clinking of brick being set in place and the

Whatever else may be said about them, the German
people are a persistent, courageous lot. With ashes
of the zeppelin Hindenburg scarcely cool, they are
rushing to completion a sister ship that will supplant
its tragically-fated predecessor.
W’e may hear a lot of complaint about the Nazi
government, and chafe at Hitler’s disregard for treat
ies (that were forced onto Germany when she was a
shambles) and we mav object to their so-called abuse
of Jews, but just the same that country has been stag
ing a comeback that must be admired and respected.
Now, with the United States performing a humani
tarian service by permitting Germany to float her
next lighter-than-air craft with our monopolized, fire
proof helium, the newer dirigible may go on startling
the world with transoceanic feats of service without
the dangers attendant with former hydrogen-inflated
ships.
The United States, following a series of horrible
disasters with lighter-than-air craft, abandoned their
use as a military experiment. The Nazis, however, have
been the world’s only successful zeppelin builders, and
that success was clouded by the Hindenburg’s end.
