TERMS OF PEACE— There can be no peace in Jackson county so long as crooked, scheming political anarchists are permitted to promote criminal syndicalism with the aid of two newspapers, $132,000 of county relief funds and the new courthouse auditorium. The state judicial system has been libeled, not only here where we all know and understand the cause and insaneness of the charges, but all over the nation—in remote points where allegations and slurs will go unchallenged and unexplained. Like a dead animal under a house which casts its stench over the entire abode, all of Jackson county has been permeated with the foul and revolting stink of a single roomful of print ing machinery dripping from ugly, misleading lies which have been crammed through it day after day. Yet, ugly and dangerous as the situation has become, Jack- son county does not have to endure the torture and disgrace of its malady. If it chooses, this venomous, insidious parasitical work can be stopped almost immediately*—but NOT by cussing the district attorney or the circuit judge. The American people for 150 years have prided themselves on the democratic form of government they have evolved and perfected. They have swelled with earned satisfaction because autocratic and dictatorial powers have been relegated to no one man—or group of men. They have boasted that the will of the people rules. Yet, when definite, decisive action is needed and needed badly—as is the case in Jackson county today— these same Americans look to their elected officials for a so lution of their problems. The same citizens who chose to strip officials of great power wail when those same officials are unable to rise to the occasion and wield sometimes necessary dictatorial authority. And now, when southern Oregonians are asking each other why the district attorney, the circuit judge or someone hasn't put a stop to this disgraceful morning publication, they forget for the moment that the RULE OF THE PEOPLE STILL HOLDS 1 They proceed to spend years and fortunes devising a government which represents the people, and which cannot act without the help and support of the people, and then wonder that their government can’t step in and take drastic steps just because drastic steps SHOULD be taken. In the case of Jackson county’s trouble, the will of the people is the controlling factor. So long as Jackson county citizens permit a scheming, dishonest editor—or pair of editors (Continued on PM« two) “We feed ’em first and investigate afterwards” is the boast of County Judge Earl Kehl and his head of relief work, Ham ilton Patton. Close observation of the county commissary the past month bears out this statement—and then some. An estimated 5000 people are being fed by Jackson county at present, with nothing in return but PROMISES to work the bill out after the groceries have been consumed. Here’s Thow Kehl's revolutionary scheme works: A man walks into the county commissary, approaches a desk where the “records" are kept. “My name is John Doe and I want groceries. I have a family of six.” His name and address are placed on a blank slip of paper with the quantity of groceries to be given. He proceeds to stand in line at a long counter, where he is served with his allotment.
