The ProCureur General of St. Pierre, Martinique, today cabled that he and family are among the saved. This confirms the report of the com plete destruction of the town. ACTIVE ON TUESDAY. . Thevolcano is 8000 feet above sea level, and te crater, which i Is three miles In circumference, vis 600 feet deep. The ruined, city, the commercial center of the Island of, Martinique, had a popu lation of about 27,000. It was on the west coast of the island, about 12 miles nbrth west of Fort de France. It was the larg est town in the French West Indies, an was divided into two quarters by a rivu let, over which a number of handsome bridges had been built The lower quar ter of the town was close and unhealthy, while, for the roost part the town waa well ventilated and pleasant.
