Veil station by reason of a defective
truck. Three cars were hurled from the
trucks and more or less splintered. Ac
cording to' Superintendent O'Brien, the
damage to' the, company's property was

a brakebeam of one of the cars, was the
only, one hurt , Superintendent O'Brien
says that he had his band mashed and

As soon as the wreck was reported;
the Portland headquarters of the com
pany, a wrecking creis was instantly dis
patched to the scene from Alblna. An

By its "being wrecked, the tracks were
blocked for several hours, holding back
the regular mornl&C jpassenger train. The
two crews worked rapidly and by iliM,
according to the superintendent's record,
the tracks 'were cleared,, And the passen

Military Board, made at a special meet
ing Monday 4he Naval Battalion of the
Oregon National Guard will be mustered
out next Tuesday. The. Naval Reserve
was organised at the time of the Spanish-American
war. There were two divis

one at Astoria was mustered but about a

The Portland Lumbering Manufae
turlng Company's mill is shut down to
day for the first time durlntitneatflk.
Since the walkout the mill had been op
erkted by a small force until yesterday
afternoon when an accident happened ,to
the machinery and a shut-down resulted.
There are several men' working: ttt the
yards cleaning up and getting things In
shape, but aside from this tbo mill pre
