SPECIA L BUY -Mr. and Mrs. Marble Cook, of Beaverton Hardware have just returned from a “ wonderful' three weeks vacation from July 4 to July 21 that included travel by yatch, plane, steamer and train. They helped their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Clare Swenson, and Mr. and Mrs. William Cook of Port land return a 45 foot yacht owned by Mrs. Swenson’s brother from Seattle, where it had been sent to be sold, to Sitka, Alaska. They left Seattle July t> about noon and traveled up the inside passage, stopping each night on shore. It took twelve days to make the trip and they were able to go ashore at places never touched at places never before commercial trips and to see scenery usually passed up. Tills is a country of streams, lakes, trees, waterfalls and mountains. All fishermen will be envious to know that one afternoon up Eva Creek, just off Hams Bay near Petersburg the three men caught 75 large rainbow trout in just two hours. Mr. Cook said, “ It was the lucky ones that got the bait.” The party arrived in Sitka, Alaska on Friday and stayed un til Sunday. They were very much impressed with the origin al Russian church located there which is said to be the wealth iest church in the world. Mrs. Swenson stayed in Sitka to visit her brother but the rest of them flew to Juneau to meet the Alaska Steamship Line, steam heat, Aleutian, in which they came home. They were over an hour late in getting there and the company held the Aleutian which is the largest ship on their line a hour while the Cooks and Swen son’s got there. However the ship had given them up and they ar rived just *as the whistle had blown and the gang plank had been lifted, hut the ship, saw them just in time and let down their baggage ladder for them to board her. They got back to Seat tle on Thursday morning, July 24 after a very enjoyable trip on hoard. The Cooks saw a very blue ice berg en route. Mr. Cook was very surprised to hear his name called out in Sitka, two Beaverton boys, Carl Karpstein ami Van Horn are in charge of the Legion dance hall there. The Cooks are finding it very hard to settle back Lno routine after such an experience. F. picnic at Shutes Park Hillsboro August 3rd., was an en joyable affair. Attendance of va rious lodges was not large as an ticipated, possibly due to unset tled weather. A bountiful pot luck lunch at noon was an en joyable affair, coffee, ice cream and soft drink were furnished by the lodges. Gales Creek juvenile band of 37 girls and boys, under the leadership of Band Master Bay Bealer, furnished some very fine music including the National An them. Several songs and musical selections were rendered by the children. Honor guests were: Dr. »Eat 1 J. Ivie, Grand Master, I. O. O. F. Earl H. Shank, grand secretary. Edward Bowman, member Home Board. Richard Scott, publicity chair man, each made a few remarks. Past Grand Master Henry Young (father of Deputy Grand Master, Graham Young) deliv ered a fine address on Odd Fel lowship, pointing out our duties not only as Odd Fellows, Re- bekahs and local citizens, but as world citizens, in keeping with Friendship, Love and Truth. The afternoon sports were a tug of war, races of various kinds and a ball game.
