shreds
Cream vitam inized m argarine and
sugar. Add b eaten egg yolks. S ift
to g e th e r flour, soda, cinnam on, gin­
g er, cloves and salt. Com bine mo­
la sse s and hot w ater. Add dry in­
g re d ie n ts to cream ed m ixture a lte r­
n a te ly w ith m olasses m ixture, and
b e a t a fte r each addition until
sm ooth. P o u r in to a greased 8-inch
sq u a re pan w hich h as been lined
w ith w axed paper w ith long ta b s
(to help in rem oving gingerbread
from p an ). B eat egg w hites to a
fro th , and th e n add a sm all am ount
o f sugar, continuing to add som e
w hile b ea tin g until all of it has
been added gradually. Add th e va­
n illa and spread m eringue on gin­
g e rb re a d b a tte r. Sprinkle shredded
alm onds on top. Bake in m oderate
oven (3503F .) from 40 to 45 m in­
u te s. Y ield: 6-8 servings. If desired,
