A N D C A N Y O N H IG H W A Y Beaverton, Oregon, Friday, November 19, 1943 Drive Started For Clothing E STAB LISH E D 1927 Union Thanksgiving Service At Congregational church Here and There Churches of Washington county will serve as collection depots in the salvage drive for discarded clothing and rags which will get under way Monday and continue through Dec. a, according to plans announced Mon day night by J. T. Covaly, county sal vage chairman. Donations of dis carded clothing are urgently needed to help clothe and rehabilitate peoples in liberated countries abroad and for relief purposes in the United States while rags are critically needed lor wiping cloths by the armed forces and war industries. Bundles of clothing are to be taken by the donors to the nearest church since shortage of gasoline, tires and manpower makes it impossible to conduct a house-to-house canvass in the campaign. All woolen goods must be brushed and all cotton and rayon garments must be clean enough to wear. Mending is not required. Any clothing which the owner knows will be used now or in the im mediate future should not be donated in this campaign. Churches all over the country are co-operating in the discarded cloth ing drive by serving as collection depots assisting in segregating the j articles and announcements of the campaign will be made in the the- ( atres, Kovaly said.
