THIS IS YOUR
BIG OPPORTUNITY

LOOKS LIKE THE NEW ENCLOSED CAR AND BIG CASH GIFTS WILL GO FOR LESS THAN WAS
REQUIRED IN OLD “ PIANO and RING” CONTEST
Judging from present indications, these big prizes are going to be
given away for leas votes than are usualy required when a jitney, a
sewing machine, a phonograph, a wrist watch or a small diamond ring
are given.
Publication of the first count today does not mean that n<; mina-
tions are closed. Far fl ont it. The campaign is only starting. There
are more candidates who have not accomplished anything than there
are who have. The campaign is hardly under way yet. Certainly ;ome
candidates have not gotten into their stride yet. Live, earnest ener
getic candidats—subscription getters—can enter now and WALK
AWAY from slow-going entries. Speed, pep, \Mork—eubecifptlons
will win.
PRIZES GO FOR L IT T L E
That is the honest truth. Votes turned in so far would not Just
ify one of the old-time piano, sewing machine and ring campaigns.
The lack of interest manifested by candidates in general is not only
regrettable, it is appalling. It is ridiculous.

LET FRIENDS DO W O R K
Here the Tuatltin Publishing Co., is putting over $3,000 in a hand
some prizes And some who have entered are content to stand by and
It their friends cast votes for them.
#
In fact, moie votes have been cast, in some instances by the sub
scribers themselves over Lie counter in the Beaverton office than
most of the canidates have turned in
This means that friends who would subscribe or renew anyway in
the natural course of business come to the office, pay their subscrip
tions, cast their votes tor their friends. Some, too, are coupon chas
ers who would rather spend profitable time looking for coupons
when one subscription would offset a whole flock of coupons. Of
course that is perfectly all right. The Tualatin Publishing Co. de
sires business and business makes the votes-cit lie r from sbserptions
or coupons but they also want to ee candidates manifest some en
thusiasm themselves in their own election.
It takes more than friends to win. It takes work. Work means
subscriptions. Subscriptions mean votes. Votes mean prizes.
