Miss Kathleen Kirk, who at­
tends school at Marylhurst, spent
her Easter vacation with her par­
ents, Mr. and Mrs. U. J. Kirk.
Misses Margaret Stupfel, Peggy
Connor and Mary Davidson, stu­
dent nurses at St. Vincents hospi­
tal, Portland, spent Easter vaca­
tion at their home in St. Paul.
The Mothers' club-« are com­
pleting their annual spring card
party which will be given Satur­
day, April 19, starting with a 1:30
dessert lunch, followed by cards.
Contract and Auction bridge will
be in play, also “ 500” and Pin­
ochle. A nice program is also be­
ing arranged.

St. Alexie Rebekah lodge met
Wednesday evening, April 9, with
Mrs. Ailiine Quijnn, vic<e grand,
acting .as noble grand. Mrs. Bes­
sie Thompson, district deputy, was
re-elected for another year. Mrs.
Alice Johnson was elected as a
delegate to the. state Assembly at
Baker in May, with Mrs. Irma
Lindquist elected as alternate.
Mrs. Bessie Thompson will give
the Response to Welcome at the
district convention at Scotts Mills
Saturday, April 19. Mrs. Eva Den-
tel is one of the convention offt-
cers. After meeting Mrs. Emma
Donahue and Mrs. Grace Jones
served a clam soup supper. Table
decorations carried out the Eiaster
motif.
The regular monthly meeting of
the Butteville P. T. A. was held
Monday evening, April 14. Mrs.

were appointed to have charge of
the music week program to be
given May 12* at the schoolhouse.
It was voted to have a ball game
the last day of school, inviting in
an outside school for the after-
noon. Misses Mary Yergen, Bet­
ty Den tel and Wayne Dentel pre­
sented a program from Canby Un­
ion high school. Teachers present
were R. Reedy, G. Pope and Miss
F. Sparks. The program numbers
were: speech, Prin. Reedy; vocal
solo, Virig|inia Paramenter; read­
ing, Jean Mayes; vocal solo, Max­
ine Christen; vocal solo, Prim.
Reedy; speech, “ Youth on the
Farm,” James Bany; quartet num­
ber, C. U. H. <S. men; vocal solo,

Louis Racette, Wm. Gooding and
Fred Dentel served doughnuts and
coffee to all.
Butteville grade school had an
Easter party Thursday afternoon,
April 10, at 2:30. On the program
was a play, readings, poems, jokes

and a piano solo, all presented by
the fourth grade, — Jean Hove,
Lorna Mae Lindquist and Charles
Nine. Colored paper eggs with
name and number were hid in the
grass on the school grounds and
each had to find theirs and come
inside and redeem their Easter
bunnies by doing a number on the
program as told by Mrs. Grace
Jones. ,
Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Lindquist
and Lorna Mae were Easter week
end ¡g)uests of Mrs. Lindquist’s
brother and sister-in-law, {Mr. and
Mrs. Mark Smith at Klamath
Falls. They report a good trip
through the Willamette highway
and much snow along the way.
¡Side trips they made were to Dor­
ris, California, and Merrill, where
they called on Mr. and Mrs.
Claude Moreland, former residents
of Aurora. Other Eiaster guests
of the Morelands were Mr. and
Mrs. Percy Ottaway of Aurora.
There were 50 present at the
Good Friday program at the
church. Rev. Ray 'Short of Donald
gave tbe Eiaster sermon. A girls*
chorus of Donald furnished special
numbers on the program. Cookies
and coffee were served to all after
the Easter program.
Mrs. Grace Jones was an Easter
guest of her son-in-lw and daugh­
ter, Mr. nd Mrs. J. Simpkins and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Donahue had
as their Easter dinner guests Mr.
and Mrs. E. Donahue and Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Fowler of Vancouver,
Mrs. Roy Fowler of Vancouver,

Mr. and Mrs. James Cline, Mrs.
Peggy Pickering of Portland, and
Stewart Denham o f Salem were
Easter dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. William Campbell and Mrs.
Alma Campbell.
Mrs. Carol Schulderman (Myrle
¡Martin) of Marshfield spent sev­
eral days last week visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Martin.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McCarty and
daughtetr of "Vancouver, Washing­
ton, were Easter visitors of Mr.
and Mrs. Francis Mathoit. The
ladies are sisters.
This community was shocked by
the sudden death of Patrick Leavy,
a long time resident o f Butteville
and a large hop grower. Much
sympathy is extended to the fam-
1ly, and Mr. Leavy will ge greatly
missed by a lonig list of friends.
Some $900,000,000 of British
investments in the United States
will be sold by British owners to
help finance the war. Federal
Loan Administrator/Jesse Jones,
stated recently that the R. F. C.
will lend individuals money to
purchase these British invest­
ments.
