Observer A urora AURORA Published Every Thursday V O L . X I. AURORA, MARION COUNTY, OREGON. Midway Between Portland and Salem, on the Pacific Highway and S. P. Ry. PUT THIS IN YOUR PIPE •AND SMOKE OPTIMISM! Yes, the country is still m arking time, but all the same, the straws that show the wind are piling up in a pret ty good-sized stack, indicating that better times are on the-way. These straws arc facts. Consider a few o f them: V The railroad earnings are improv ing. Car loadings are on the increase. The steel industry has seen the worst o f dullness. Copper likewise. W ool en mills are active. Silk trade is re viving. Leather and hides markets áre getting busy. Cotton prices are moving surplus cotton stocks. The sugar industry is picking up on high er prices. More building and con struction every day. Merchandising and retail trade responding to in creasing groups o f buyers. Lumber dealers are moving their stocks. Banks are loosening up and beginning to support business in business like way. And a flood-tide o f gold from foreign countries has placed, so far, well over $500,000,000 real gold coin in American vaults! But most important o f all the signs — o f which the above is only a meager sample— is the gradual turning o f pessimists into optimists. A country must believe in itself, and look cheer fully toward the future, before there can be any future worth believing in, says Sugarman’s Indicator. $1.50 a Year N O .
