The Marion County Corn Show has been postponed to
Jan. 39-24. There is still time to make an exhibit. Good
corn was grown here this year. Clackamas county farm
ers tributary to Aurora may exhibit as well as Marion
county farmers.
Any one with good corn should
make a display. Ask the Aurora State Bank for a
premium list.
The Southern Pacific Lines north of Ashland have
been awarded the much coveted Safety Banner awarded
by the Regional Director of the U. S, Railroad adminis
tration, for the best record made in preventing accidents.
The banner was won through the efforts of employes.
During the period October 18 to 31,3919 not a single acci
dent occurred on the Southern Pacific Lines north of
Ashland.
The sale of War Saving Stamps will continue through-
6ut 1920, and will probably become a permanent method
for the promotion of thrift and irivestment. The 1920
war saving stamps will be larger than the 1919 stamps,
carmine in color, and will bear the head of Washington
instead of the bust o f Franklin. Thrift stamps will be
the same. Begin the New Year right by saving some
thing every week—in thrift a war savings stamp.

But we can’t continue increasing our
production unless we continue increasing
our railroad facilities.
The farms, mines and factories cannot
increase their output beyond the capacity
o f the railroads to haul their products.
Railroads are now near the peak o f their
carrying capacity.
W ith ou t railroad expansion—more en
gines, more oars, more tracks, more ter
minals— there can be little increase in
production.
But this country o f ours is going to
keep right on growing— and the railroads
must grow with it. ,
T o command in the investment markets
the flow 6 f new capital to expand railroad
facilities — and so increase production —
there must be public confidence in the
future «earning power o f railroads.
