.IN DRGAA1LAND
,Tis sweet to linger in the soft effulgence of the twilight glow,
When each day's task is done, rnd music sweet and low
Speaks Love's eternal yearnings and Disvot ion's mute desire,
Kindling the altar of the heart with evening's vestal fire.
From out the balmy night there comes to me
A thousand cheerful voices, speaking sweet mystery.
Led by their joyous laughter and their Kght antf love,
I soar to realms more beautiful than the starry heights above.
Sleep, on the wings of Night, then smiles on rr.c;
Wc fly away to flowery realm?, besids an emerald sea.
And sweet, indeed, it is to meet life's dear one3 there,
To walk and talk with them cgain, and feel that they are near.

When Butte Was .
A Barren Desert.
For five wceljs last winter the city of J3utte,-Mont, was
a barren desert, It. was the driest placo on earth. Tho
water supply was all right, tut owing to a strike all tho
newspapers wcro suspended.
Butto's experience proved that in this day and ago the
local newspaper is a public necessity. Nobody, knew what
was Happening, i-aiao
rumors ' spread like -bad
butter. Fake stories
about citkens circulated
by word of mouth until
several duels almost re
sulted. There were no
newspapers' to tell tho
truth about .things.
Business suffered worst
of all. Merchants tried
handbills, which -didn't
fill tho blli. They work
ed tho billboard over
time, bft only bored tho '
public. Tho pooplo cried
for newspapers as babies
cry for (Sco ad.)
For onco in tho his
tory of tlo world it was
demonstrated beyond
peradventun that a towu
without ft livo newspaper
.n j acaa one. oiores
could not do business without properly advertising their
wares, and they could aot advertise properly without news
paper space,
Butte merchants aro now advertising to mako up for lost
time. Business men who didn't think much of advertising
before hare learned iti valuo and aro using newspaper
pace.
