Wednesday, October 26, 1904 THb SUMPTER MINbR LUCKY OWNtRS OP MORMON BASIN MINES The rich strike iu Morraou Basin reported in yesterday's Miner on the property controlled by P. G. Wells, of Sump tor, created considerable exoltemeut among other Sumpter owners of contiguous mines. The claims upon which the strike was made were purchased three years aso by Mr. Wells, who later located two others adjoining. The property is owned by the Summit Gold Min ing company, of Oregon City, of which Mr. Wells is superintendent and general manager. 'The Ave claims lie along the -summit of the ridge dividing Malheur and Baker counties, and are about a mile, from the Morning Star group, of which Judge W. S. Newbury, of Sumpter, is manager. Another contiguous property is the Rainbow and Hattie B. group, owned by the Commercial Mining and Milling company, of Portlaud, of which W. E. King is manager, who has completed and is uow oper ating a quartz mill on California gulch, on tho east side of the basin, aud adjoining the Summit company's claims. Valley Queen Looks Good. Commodore Tom C. Gray aud Major Charles S. Warren, Jr., mau ager aud vice-president respectiv ely of the Valley Queen mine, came down from Lake Creek last evening. They report the Valley Queen looking better than ever. Wok has boeu rushed recently on No. 3 and 4 drifts in the main tunnel. Fine ore has been sacked for a test shipment to the Sumpter smelter.
