SAYS COPPEROPOLIS
MINE IS A CORKtR
Marion A. Butler, of Portland,
law partner of United States Sonator
John II. Mitaholl, is nothing if not
enthusiastic uvor tho remarkably rich
showing at tho Copporopolis miuo,
at Quartburg, in which ho is a heavy
stockholder, and ou routo to which
ho and General Manager W. W.
(Jibbs paasod through Sumpter
this morning.
"I believe, " said Mr. Butler to u
Miner man this morning at the
depot, "that tho Copperopolls will
develop into one of tbo greatest, if
not ubsolutoly tho groatest, copper
mi no iu the Northwest. Recout de
velopments havo opeuod a body of
copper oro, llfty-soveu feet wide,
thoroughly and oveuly miueralizod
clear across, 000 feet long, boing
opened at three points, and 247 feet
(loop. Tho oro is tho prettiest ever
takon from a mine. It will grade
high, so high that tho recout state
ment made by the mining editor of
the Portland Journal, that it will
average from one to three per cent
copper, is utterly and uumeutionably
abdiird. Furthermore, the ore is not
refractory, as the Journal assumes.
It is susceptible of easy concentra
tion, as proved by elaborate analyses
aud repeated tests iu bulk. Manager
(Jlbbi, who is depeveloping the prop
erty, is. the man who opened the
mother lode on the Sunset mine in
British Columbia. He is both a
scientific aud practical miner. He
knows the theory of ore deposition
aud oau put iu an upper. Work at
the Copperopolls is eutirely in his
baud-). Next spring he will order
the installation of a oouceutratiug
plant, the product to be shipped to the
Sumpter smolter. Pendiug that time
development will be kept up, so that
when the plaut is ready there will
be ore enough, aud of a sufficiently
high grado, to make the Copperopolls
a corker."
