WILL THE WORLD PRODUCE
$400,000,000 GOLD IN 1910?
What will bo the world's produc
tion of gold iu 1910? If there are
uo wars to preveut production iu auy
of the gold producing countries, such
as was the case iu South Africa, it
is probable that by tbo tlmo 1910 is
roached the annual production of
gold will hare renched tho handsomo
total of 8100,000,000. Tho record
year for gold output cf tbo world was
1899, when a total of $312,011,388
was produced.
Up to 1801) South Africn was a
great producer of gold, having takou
first place amoug all gold producing
countries. Iu 1800 South Africa's
productiou was only exceeded by
Australia, which iu that year pro
duced $78,75,5372; South Africa,
$72,901,501; United States, 170,.
090,021 ;. The Boer war betug iu
1900 tho total world's output of
gold fell to $200,743,30. In 1901
it was $204,88404,77. and in 1002
it bad increased to $295,889,000.
Now that mining conditiona have
resumed normal conditions, it is not
at all unlikely that it will within
Ave years be producing fully $100,
000,000 anually. This seems likely
with the present rate of progression.
The United States will certainly
be a close second, though Australia
Is making rapid strides. Aaska will
doubtless greatly augment our gold
output, as splendid propositions
exist and which will surely be de
velopedby American capital.
British Columbia does not give
great promise as a gold producer, but
in silver, lead, copper and coal it Is
bound to take high rank. British
Columbia's mineral wealth is vast,
but is little developed up to date.
Lack of capital is the principal
drawback, but gradually capital is
becoming aware of the great richness
of that country and mines are being
opened up in places that a few years
ago were almost Inaccessible. Enor
mous deposits of workable copper
ores have been located, and with
large companies aud pleuty of capital
these copper mines may be expected
to be heard from in a few years.
Miuing World.

His First
Complaint
"The writer regrets the necessity of lodging
complaint concerniug youi usual excellent
service, butjn a friendly spirit begs to submit
the follewing: Yesterday you sold me lower
nine, car three, on The Pioneer Limited.
But you neglected to advise me that it would
be necessary to have the porter waken me in
the morning, and as there was so little motiou
to the car, I overslept. I have covered a large
area on some of the famous trains of the
United States and this is the first complaint of
this character I have made. I trust you will see
to it in the future that passengers are advised."
