Wednesday. November n, 190) THE SUMPTER MINER CHANCE TO REPEAL 06N0XI0US EDDY LAW Let Mining Men Exert Their Influ ence in the Extra Session of The Legislature. If the mining men of the stato have any influence, now is the time for tfaem to exert it and force the ropeal of the obnoxious Eddy law. If members of the state legislature from the mining districts, especially those from eastern Oregon, know ou which sido their political bread is buttered, now is tho timo for them to stand pat and forco this issue on the pumpkin pushing statosmou df tho Willamette ralley, who passed tho oppressive measuro and who aro now clamoring for an extra session and an ameudmout to the tax lory law. Tho opportunity for reprisal is self ovidont. Head tho following press lispatob from Salem : Governor Chnmborlain has decided that ho will not call an extra session of tho legislature uuless he is re quested to do so by a majority of tho membors of both houses. On investigation ho hus learned that tho stato treasury will not suitor for lack of funds, owing to tho fact that no lory can bo mado this year. The stato finances aro in good con dition and tho county and olty finances of tho stato in goneral will not suffer materially if the tax levy ia not made. The governor says that be would not hesitate to call an extra session if the houses would meet and pro vide for the tax levy, then adjourn without further legislation or delay, but ho la of the belief that If the special session be called a number of business measures would be forced on the legislature, and the expenses be greator than the loss to the state through tho error In the tax law. Tho governor intimates that he la certain this cumbersome and extra business would be forced on the legislature. OFFICIAL RECORDS.
