Wednesday, October 14. 1903 THE SUMPTER MINER DEVELOPMENT Satisfactory Work at The Gold Bug Grizzly. WALL IS ENCOUNTERED. Shaft Now Down 270 Feet-Will Sink to 300 Foot Level and Cross cut Both Ways -Hanging Wall Has Been Broken Into Strong Ledges. Jnck Hcnucssy, superintendent of tho Gold Rug Grizzly who cmno lu today from tho mine, states that tho shuft la now down 270 feot, and Mint development 1h bringing most satisfactory results lit tho property. Tho shaft was started about thirty feot from one of tho parallel lodges, but owing to tho dip of tho vein tho hanging will is being broken luto ou tho present workings. This ledge shows a width of about forty feot. Mr. Honnossy will uoutluuo sluic ing to tho 300 foot level which ho thinks ho can reaoh lu tho next ten days or two weeks. Hero ho will out a station and croscsut both ways. Tho parallel lend of tho proporty is about seventy feot from tho shaft, and tho plan is to thoroughly explore both. Considerable water is now being oucouutoreded, but it is readily boing taken euro of. Mr. Ilenuessy hits his supplies in and his aim Is to prosccuto work at tho Gold Hug Grizzly all winter. A MINER WHO OBJECTED TO THE USE OF CUSS WORDS. Religious' Chap Got Fired Because He Didn't Like Swearing. Ho said ho found that such language had a decidedly depressing effeot on 'b spiritual conidtlon and that I would do him a great kindness if in the future I would be more careful when in his presence. I told him if be didn't like my ways he was at liberty to quit work any minute, that I didn't butt Into blm in matters of coucsieuce, and 1 certainly ex pected as much from him. Ho quit. "In the future when mau strikes mo for a job, I shall tako him through a rigid examination as to his ability to use profanity, and if I tlud hn is lacking in this particular, or falls to admire tho trait in others, I shall toll him to move on." LAST CONSIGNMENT OF SNOW CREEK MACHINERY. Has Arrived at Baker And Will Be Sent' Out at Once. , Frod D. Smith, general manager of tho Snow Creek miuo in tho Oreen horn district, came iu yesterday to attend a mooting of tho Masons last night. Tho Inst consignment of machinery for tho ton-stamp mill has arrived in linker City aud will be sent out to Whltuoy at onoo. Tho rest of tho machinery is boiug delivered as rapidly as possible, aud tho null is to bo running nt an early date. Lumber Cut on This Coast. Unolllclnl estimates put tho annual cut of lumber aud shiuglcH of three Paeitlo states nt 1.000,000,000, feet, of which California suppplies 800,000,000 feet. Oregon 710, 000.000 feot aud Washington !2,:i00, 000,000 feet. At this rate it -is calculated that the forests of tho Pad Ho coast will bo exhausted lu forty years.
