The last one ho dorotod almost entirely to the soaroh for a vein, to accurately locato which has baffled prospectors for twenty years. That it is there no one seems to doubt, for rich float aud coarse gold is found in abundance, but the ledgo outcrops nowhero and lies far below the surface. Finally, year before last, he found sufficient oridnco to justify him in taking up a claim. Ho has not yet uncovered what all coucedo is a marrelously rich oro shoot, judging by tho float found, but bo thinks ho knows about whoro it 1b and that this season tho rich troasuro will bo revealed. Mr. Brown says there is con siderable activity in that vicinity this season. Tho War Eaglo twenty etamp mill bus boon working con stantly on the mountain of low grade ore, commonly known as the "Mal heur porphyry dyke, " and the general impression prevails that the enterprise has proven to bo a profitable one. The ore is literally quarried from the surface, everything being run through the mill. Water is getting scarce, however, aud it is feared that tho mill will have to shut down for a few weeks. Tho Rod, White and Bluo is putting in a modern mill with six stamps of the trlpplo disohargo pateru. All of tho placor mines report making satisfactory clean ups ranch, to cut lumber for tho quartz mill shortly to bo put in. Tho com pany has already gotten out 120,000 feet of logs, aud will begin cutting lumber in a few days. Sumpter Boys Win Out Over the Bourne Team. In the juvenile drilling contest Saturday afternoon on Granite and Center strets, Masters Jones and Daly, of Sumpter, bested Masters Peterson and Marcum, of Bourne, in a score of 21 15-10 to 17 15-10. It was a spirited meet, and the little follows pounded away for all they were worth. There was a bet of tlOO to the side. Betting among the spectators was pretty lively and considerable money changed hands. Both teams drilled on the Fourth when the Bourne team came out ahead. The Sumpter boys sought this occasion to even up matters. The judges were, Clark Snyde, A. P. Smith and Joseph Wooley. Walt Cronin was official time-keeper. Quite a crowd witnessed the contest. Browne, consulting engineer for the company, perfected the plana for the plant some time age, and as stated then, it will be a ten tamp mill with a Wllfley table concentrator.
