THE SUMPTER MINER
SEARCH FOR VEIN.
Mr. Brown Thinks He Will
Uncover Ledge Soon.
J. H. Browu returned eeroral dnya
elnco from tho Burut rlvor country,
whoro ho had beeu for a weok looking
after his mining interests. Mr.
Brown put In two seasons tbore,
prospecting. The last one ho dorotod
almost entirely to the soaroh for a
vein, to accurately locato which has
baffled prospectors for twenty years.
That it is there no one seems to
doubt, for rich float aud coarse gold
is found in abundance, but the ledgo
outcrops nowhero and lies far below
the surface. Finally, year before last,
he found sufficient oridnco to justify
him in taking up a claim. Ho has
not yet uncovered what all coucedo
is a marrelously rich oro shoot,
judging by tho float found, but bo
thinks ho knows about whoro it 1b
and that this season tho rich troasuro
will bo revealed.
Mr. Brown says there is con
siderable activity in that vicinity
this season. Tho War Eaglo twenty
etamp mill bus boon working con
stantly on the mountain of low grade
ore, commonly known as the "Mal
heur porphyry dyke, " and the general
impression prevails that the enterprise
has proven to bo a profitable one.
The ore is literally quarried from
the surface, everything being run
through the mill. Water is getting
scarce, however, aud it is feared that
tho mill will have to shut down for
a few weeks.
Tho Rod, White and Bluo is
putting in a modern mill with six
stamps of the trlpplo disohargo
pateru. All of tho placor mines
report making satisfactory clean ups
ranch, to cut lumber for tho quartz
mill shortly to bo put in. Tho com
pany has already gotten out 120,000
feet of logs, aud will begin cutting
lumber in a few days.
As stated in last week's Issue, n
Klukaid plant will bo put in, and it
is understood tho machinery is to bo
ordered at once.
