Goodhoart, rector of tbo Episcopal church, has finished the building for the free readiug room on Auburu aud Bouauza streets, aud It will bo open to the public lu a short tlino. The malu room of the buildiug Is to bo supplied with papers, magazluos, a froo lltbrary, aud iu additiou various games of au inuocout uaturo will bo provided. A bath room has also been fitted up which will bo free to the public. Rov. Goodheart will have au office iu the buildluug aud look after the details of tho work himself. Tuesday oveulugs tho readiug aud bath rooms will bo open to Indies only. It is entirely n private institution, Rev. Goodheart having put up his own money for tho construction of tho buildiug aud will also ebulp it himself. It is stated, however, that if the public sees tit to douate auythlug for ruuuiug expenses, such douatious will he gladly received. Rev. Goodheart's idea is to provide au attractive place where men can spend their oveulugs surrounded by wholesome iutlueuces, who otherwlto might be tempted to saloous aud evil resorts. Hurt aud a brother from Chicago, will lenvo tho first of the mouth on a trip through Southern Oregon and Western California seeking a location to settle. Tho party will drive through tho country, and a wagou has already been equipped aud provisioned for this purpose. The Itinerary will probably cover sovoral months until a favorablo locality is reached. Mr. Hurt 1ms disposed of his proporty horo aud will bo ready to leave ou short uotico. Mr.- Hurt has been a rosideut of Sumpter for five years, three of which as stated have beou spout in the employ of the Bascho Hardware company. He is universally popular and will leave a great many frioudt In Sumpter. FLYING DUTCHMAN. Good Ore Being Uncovered on Rock Creek. The Democrat says that a letter recolvod yesterday from Bouruo by Mr. D. II. Kout from an old mining frleud stated that ho had just boon over to tho Rock Crook side ou a visit to the Flyiug Dutchman aud that tho work ou tho adjolug claims had uucovored a largo aud vory rich lodge of ore up closo to tbo cud liuo of tho Flyiug Dutchman. Tho writer stated that as much as ho hud previously beou unfriendly to the Rock Creek country, he was surprlsod aud ploasod to find that this year thoy have opuonod a magnificent miueral veiu there. This cau not fail to bo good news to Baker City people who aro Inter ested lu that camp, especially as It is contiguous to this city. Timber and Homeitead Filing.
