road is repaired so that transportation
charges will bo reduced to an
equitable rate. About six miles of
the Sumpter road is In fairly good
shape, but tho rest of it is iu poor
condition. If tho roads wero fixed,
bo says that the transportation from
the mine to the smelter would be
reduced at least one-fourth. Tbo
situation not only affects the Im
perial, but the other companies, in
the Cable Cove district which have
shipping ore. The county com
missioners have the matter under
advisement and it is probable that
the road will be attended to.
Another object In bis vist to the
city was to see Dr. Mueller, manager
of the smelter, and make arrange
ments as to smelting charges. The
dootor was out of the city, however,
and this matter could not be attended
to. Captain Paul sura that ho is
propariug to start a drift on tho 200
foot lovol and drift both ways on tho
lodgo. There is a good showing to
begin with.

to ship ore to tho Sumpter smoltor,
but tbut tho matter is held buck on
account of tho bud condition of tho
Cublo Cove road.
Work, ho siiys, is progressing very
sntieuctnrfiuly at thee Daliy McKee.
Ho is figuring on putting iu u hoist,
with a enpucity of 1150 feet depth,
and will probably install u treating
plaut lator on.
