Similiter will have a Fourth of
July unexampled in the the history
of the oily. Indications point to
this. More money will bu expended,
more prizes offered, and greater
preparations for a big day are under
way than ever before.
The mutter is in the hands of com
petent oomittees. A citizens' meet
ing convened Monday night at the
Kills Opera house, with Mayor C. II.
McColloch uh chairman, and appoint
ed the following executive cemmittee:

Johns, Walter Croulu, Thomas

The above committee met at tho
Club Tuesday afternoon and appoint

Mayor Charles II. McColloch Is
to be marshal of the day. The

There will be drilling contests,

VALLEY QUEEN.
Ledge, It Is Thought, Will Be
Reached Within Ten Or
Fifteen Feet.
Tom Gray, superintendent of tho
Valley Queen, came in this week
from tho property and reports that
the formation In which he Is now
driving is growing softer with every
Indication that tho main Valley
Queen ledgo will le reached wlthl
the noxt ten or fifteen feet. Tho
crosscut now being driven is to form
tho main working lovol of tho mine,
and will tap tho vein at a depth of
about 200 feet. Tho crosscut is now
in a distance of over 200 feet. In
driving this distance a number of
stringers wero cut which will bo ex
plored after tho main ledgo is
reached. These Btrlugers have
shown high values, and havo averaged
soveral feet In width. The largest
one was five feet.
Mr. Gray says that the suow la
juow practically gone, and that ho 1b
preparing to increase his working
force and prosecute development
with renewed vigor.

The low rates from the east to the
west and the northwest, Febuary 15 to
April :I0, will undoubtedly bring out
thousands ot settlers. Where they will
go is largely a question of inducement.
