He discovered the Highlaud about fourteen years ago, immediately commenced work ing on the property, and also concluded that ho could develop it himself without any other capital or aid than his own labor. Ho refused to sell, because he wanted to be the owner of a producing mine and one wbiob, In his judgment, would outclass all his neighbors. He had good reasous for believing that he could accomplish all these things becauso his neighbors wero all opening up large ore bodies and produoing largo amounts of money. As time passed ou, In spite of bis herculean efforts, Mr. Kuapp realized that alone and unaided he could not accomplish his long cherished ambition. Ou January -ft, Mr. Kuiipp sold his property to tho Highland J Uold Mlues Compauy, of Sumpter, Oregon, and since that time active development has lxon carried on with excellent results. Large bodies of ore have boou ox posed and tho Highland's future Is assured.
