Wednesday, May 27, 190$ THE SUMPTER MINER ? THE MORNING MILL. To Start Operation June J, Says Manager Simmonds. T. J. Simmonds, manager of the Morning mine lu tbo Greonhoru dis trict, who was In the city this week says that the Bryan rotary mill re cently installed on the property will be In operation by tho first of June. The mill Is equal to ten stamps and has a daily capacity of from twenty five to thirty-five tons, depending upon the hardness of the ore. Enough ore is now blocked out, Mr. Simmonds says, to keep the mill running a year. The upper work ings are being timbered and every thing is being put in first class con dition. The Morning is among the best properties in the Greenhorns. An evidouce of this is tho way other operators refer to having the Morning ledge. NE1TH, GZDDFSj OF WISDOM. Neltb, Judge Evans' Rcnurkible Black and Tan. Nolth is a dog a little black and tan bitch owned by Judgo Evans of this city. The judgo ovldontly foresaw tbo wonderful Intolligouco of this littlo animal when ho bestowed upon her tho iiiinio of tho Egyptlau deity of wisdom. Nolth was proprely named in hor early youth, which ovoryone will attest who enjoys hor acquaintance and is familiar with hor remarkable tricks. "Nolth has always boon lucky," says Judge Evans. "Sho is just liko a lot of peoplo I know, who don't seem especially good for anything except to get the best that is going. Just lucky devils, that's all. It's so with Nolth. She's clover, and everybody likes hor. "She bas'nt an onomy in tbo world that I know of. Sho docs all kinds of simplo tricks which I have taught her with but little etfort. Hor almost human iutelllgeuco attracts peoplo and thoy take a liking to hor, but sho is just an ornament, tbero is no practical utility to hor. Why, tbo otbor day she worked up hor courago to tackle a stray cat that chanced to oomo into my rooms, but tbo cat mado one pass at her and it was all off with Neith. She rushed to me for protection and treniblinglly nestled In my lap. Somo big husky dog that will fight tho dovll himself comes in for tbo kicks of tho community, wbilo Nolth in tho spoiled child of luxury, aud wouldu't tacklo auything her size for tbo world. "Nolth has boon lucky from her infaucy. It's puro luck that she is living now. Hor sex was against ber, aud it was only my intervention that saved ber from a watory gravo. A lady, knowing my fonduess for animals, told mo about tho increase in a certain canine family, but said that tho solitary femalo youngling was doomed to distrutclou on account of her sex, and being a kindbeartod lady importuned mo to save hor. That's how Neltb camo into my possession. I have given ber a home, but she has striven hard to repay ber board and keep by ber in telligent ways. Sho has a wonderful ly bright mind, the brightest I bavo ever observed in a dog. She readily understands any simplo conversation. Of course I seldom couverse with ber on any scientific or philosophic subjects, but rthe is able to grasp ordiuary every day United States without any difficulty. Sho is only a year and a half old aud the chances are that in time sho will be more accomplished thau was ever the Illustrious Egyptian goddess of wisdom for whom I named her." Coyote and the Deer Lie Down Together. F. E. O'Rourko says ho saw six deor and one coyote Monday, wbilo returning from Burnt River. Tbo inference was that tho bunch wero grazing sldo by side lu tbo same meadow lot. Reduced Summer Excursion Rate. Tbo Denver & Rio Grande, popu larly known as the "Scenic Lino of the World," has announced greatly reduced rouud-trip rates from Pacific Coast points for tbo benefit of teach ers who will spond their vacation in tbo east, and of dologatos to all tbo prominent conventions N.
