The Hex MnuurirHuiIng commuy,nr
Oakland, California, has recently
been orugulxed for (ho iiiiiuufai'turo
of tho l'uliuor Amalgamator, a newly
Mitiiiti'l iiiucliluo. It Ih (Ii'mtIInhI
iih follews:
It stands about four feet in height
and Ih four feet Niiuro. It has a
perpendicular cup cylinder at tho
upper end of which Ih a cup six
Inches deep liy six Inchon across and
the whole runs at a speed of 'JO, 00
revolutions per minute. At tho top
of the cup on the lusldo is an iron
baud or lliiugo about 4H of an Inch
thick by one Inch In width, while
on the outside is a conical shoulder
four inches wide. Inside this cup
is placed live pounds of quicksilver,
which, the cylinder revolves, Is
distributed upwardly toward tho
limine at the top. Tailings aro fed
to the cup through a spout and
between this spout and the rim of the
cup is a space of about an inch,
leaving room for tho water and slime
to pass out after the gold has been
taken up by the quicksilver. The
principle is that all particles of gold
and tho lino gold Is forced into
contact with tho quulksllvcr before
reaching tho tlaiigo at the top. When
tho motor power Is shut oir the
aumlgam falls to the bottom of
the cup aud is poured out. Around
the cylinder is a wooden hood which
compels the waste and water to pass
away through a waste pipe. A two-h.
p. motor will run tho machine, using
up three tons of pulverized ore per
hour. Recently a machine was
thoroughly tost is I at the Lightueer
mine near Angels Camp, aud received
a very high commendation from Mr.
Alex Chambers tho supereluteudeut,
