Wednesday, April 8, 1903 THE SUMPTER MINER STRIKE AT THE OREGON MONARCH. Twenty Stamp Mill to be Put in This Fall Hieh Grade Ore. From assays obtained, the strike recently made at the Oregon Mon arch, proves to be a high grade of milling ore. The quality of the ore and the character of the bodies are such that the company feels justified in making the announcement that a mill will be put in this fall. Noth ing definite has been given out as to the size of tho mill, but it is stated that it will probably be a twenty atamp plant. The strike has caused quite a good deal of excitement in the district and stimulated tho com pany to renewed energy lu tho lino of development operations. Throo shifts are to be worked and the propo sition hurried along with all possi ble speed. Tho vein recently crosscut is twelve feet in width, with eight foot of flue milling oro, giving 7G0 to 800 foot of backs over tho crosscut. The company will contiuuo the crosscut to catch two more veins on tho prop rety which promise fluo oro bodies. This is tho most importaut strike yot made on tho Monarch, tho previous veins encountered whllo showing fluo bodies, are smaller in dimensions. The present tunnel is in 800 foot and will bo the main working levol. Drifting can be carried on either way and will undoubtedly open up some Tory fine ore shoots. This property is situated in the well known Red Boy district, and la the south extension of the same vein system. It is believed it will In time make an equal showing with the famous Red Boy. takon from tho markot, and no moro of it can bo purchased at any prlco. The concern is run on a most economical basis, and nil expendi tures except those absolutely necessary to carry ou operations at the mine are cut out. For Instance, no officer in the company draws a salary and all other oxpensos usually encounterod are carofully avoided. The Blue Bird owns six claims which lay alongside tho Red Boy in the same district. The property is making a fine showing in the way of high grade ore and is regarded as among the most promising in the district. r The Buckhorn, which it is the intention to make a sister property, includes nine claims in the district, and is officered by the Blue Bird people. The company is getting ready to begin development work on an extensive scale. Three shifts will be worked day and night, and later in the season a compressor will bo put in. This property already has considerable dovolopmont work on it, lu the way of tuunols, open cuts, otc. This summer will boo vast changes in both tho Blue Bird and Buchkoru. Rimbol Restaurant Sold. THE BLUE BIRD AND BUCKHORN. Mill for Former This Summer and Latter to be Rapidly Developed. The Blue Bird company has quit selling stock. Van Vleot & Wright, financial ageuts for tho property, announce that thoro is no moro Blue Bird stock ou tho markot, that an offer of $1 a sbaro would bo refused for it. Tho reason for this is that ButHclout stock has boon sold and tho mouoy palced lu bank to make the improvements coutomplatod this summer, and carry on the development work uuder way. A mill aud a thoroughly equipped plant will bo installed ou tho property within the next two or three months. The company Is in excellent shape financially, and has all the money It needs to carry out its present plans. A feature of this company, which is a departure from the ordinary mining corporation, is that after disposing of the necessary amount of treasury stock to carry on dovelop ment operations and Install machin ery, no more stock can be sold until the mine becomes a dividend payer.
