Killen, president of the Killen, Wurnor, Stuwurt comauy, re turned last 1'Yldny from h threo weeks' business trip to New York, liONton, Chicago, and MilwHukee. SEPARA- EspcrlmcnUl Plant Built at Lcadvlllc ior Separation of Orel. For yearn the low-grade sulphide ores of liidvllh, Colorado, and par ticularly those containing complex Hiilphides, as most of I hem do, having lead, I lie, iron ami copper hh well as gold, silver and other minerals in their makeup, have been nil economic problem of absorbing Importance to the mine owners anil operators of that dsltrict. Tho most refractory ores are those combining large amounts of, zluo sulphide with those of lead, iron and copper. There lire reduction works where tho lead liud iroi sulphides can Im disposed of to advantage, but the lead smelters J'euerally impose a penalty on zinc in xcess of a stated percentage. Until recently there was no satisfactory Siet hod (of separating the zluc from le accompanying sulphides, but the Electro magnetic separation of these niluerals, which has only recently been accomplished, has apparently Solved thisVexed pniblem and has rflven a nowjmpetus tomiiiliig in the Vcarbouate catiipT" The KesiiniH'tlon'company of Lead vllle has built an exHriuieutl plant for the separation of zluo sulphide from galena and pyrlte; It Is stilted to lie In successful operation, mid the mill will be enlarged. . similar separating device has been introduced iu Uritlsh Columbia, it Is stated, successfully, and valuless dumps of low-grade ziuo-lcad-coppcr and' iron ore have suddenly assumed ail Im portance and a value not previously available. In almost every lead silver district in the world ziuc ap pears sootier or later in depth, and with It usually lowor values In prec ious metals, and heretofore this com bination of Uiso sulhpldes has often resulted in siuhuis1ou of mining ami metallurgical operations, for "the reason that the lead smelter did not want the ziuc, and tho zluo smelter did not want tho lead or Iron, and tho copper smelter wanted neither zinc nor lead. Ah tho now electro magnetic separators are said to make a clean product of the zinc, leaving barely a trace with tho lead, iron and copper, It it may easily bo un derstood J how valuable an acquisi tion this now method of separation Ih to tho Industry of mining in those districts where theso complex sulph ide ores occur. Mining and Scien tific Press. General Warren Wins Fame on New Lines. Along with a picture of the Gen eral, the Butte Inter Mountain publishes thlsThe publication in tho Inter Mountain a few days ago of tho story about tho card game called "bugbouso" aroused more or loss in terest in tho origin of tho name. VarloiiH theorloH have been advanced as to tho source from whence the name camo. ADutte gontleman says.that ho la quite certain that tho origin of tho name should be attributed to Gen eral Charles S. Warren of this city. It was about two years ago that tho game was first introduced in the Sil ver How club. It ws thon known us " feaser: 4'1 "General Warren, after taking a few hands in tho games, conferred upon it tho name of "bug house."
