IRON DYKE CLAIMS.
.in.H..
TIMBER LAND. ACT JUNE j, i87.-HOTICH FOR
PUBLICATION.
Owners Expect to be First
Shippers to Smelter.
Generally In minim: districts which
arc forging right ahead as tide one is,
there is moro or less friendly rivalry be
tween claim owners as to which will
accomplish certain objects first.
If a railway line is building toward a
district, each individual or company
which has a producer desires the honor
of making the tirst shipment over the
line.
In the present Instance the question is
who can claim the distinction of ship
ping the first consignment of ore to the
works of the Oregon Smelting and Re
fining company at Sumpter, when that
company will be ready to receive and
sample ore this coming spring.
T ho managers of the Listen Like Min
ing company claim they will bo the
pioneer shippers to tho smelter, or they
will have an excellent reason for not
carrying out this ambition. In fact
they are making every effort with that
end in view.
Lately they have been sending more
men out to the Iron Dyke mine, and
after the first of tho year three shifts of
eight hours each will be worked on sink
ing the main shaft.
This portion of their holdings, the
Iron Dyke, is located ten miles west of
Whitney, tho terminus of the Sumpter
Valley railway. This ten miles has to
le overcome by wagon transportation.
To facilitate shipments the company
have constructed four miles of excellent
wagon road at their own expense.
To Ihj exact, the location of tho Iron
Dyke is at the head of McXamee milch,
crossing that ravine n short distance
abovu where a 114,000 nugget and a
number of others of considerable value
were found na few years go.
This is said to be one of tho finest
situated camps in the country for many
reasons. Their principal product is
copper ore, carrying gold and silver.
They do not yet know the extent of the
deposit, but to us) an hackneyed phrase,
there apiear to Im oceans of it. As fur
as tested, this ore will run from $48 to
50 per ton.
This company ulso own the Listen
Lake mines, eleven miles northof Sump
ter. From this the name of their com
pany is taken. Any property they ac
quire is added to tho assets of the Lis
ten l.ake, which is the parent concern.
On account of the depth of snow, no
work is being done on this latter group.
The'finest line of Iownoys celebrated
candies ever brought to the City, was
received December 17th at Sturgills.
Please call and insiect them before
purchasing elsewhere.
Something to depend upon Ukint
powder.
