WedoOWeffiberTi9o rtoMj 'MINBItr; E. P. COWEN ON WILLOW CREEK. Formation of the District a Puulc, but It Looks Good to Him. E. P. Cowen has returned from a trip to the Willow Creek district in Oregon, where he went to examine some de velopment work which had been done on some mining property in which he is interested. He brought back with him a number o( samples of ore, which were assayed in the city, giving very satisfactory returns. When seen yesterday afternoon Mr. Cowen said that very, little work has been done in the way of development upon the cluims in the district, because of the fact that no preparations had been made for" winter quarters. He stilted that in nil probability the camp would be quiet during the winter, but that he expected u good sired boom next year, as he was of the opinion that the indications warranted the belief that an iniiortutit mining district would be developed there. In reference to the formation that characterizes the district, Mr. Cowen paid that it was quite different from anything heretofore encountered In the mining districts of the west and for that reason was quite puzzling to the average miner or proiqiector. So far as opened up the veins were found in a contact between diorites and a form of slate. The leads, he said, were strongly out lined and gave every promise of per manency and richness. In places the ledges were fully 100 feet in width, the higher values were found in narrower veins. but tho The vein matter, he continued, was composed mostly of quartz, good values, however, being found in the diorites, with indications that the latter will bo found to" be heavily mineralized as depth is gained. Mr. Cowen expects to spend several months in the east during the winter, and in view of that fact will susend development work on the Willow creek properties in which he is interested un til next spring.
