Wednesday, September 17, 1902 THE SUMPTER MINER QUARTZBURG DISTRICT Improvements Going On in One of Sumpter's Tribu tary Camps. .1. It. Hrowii, the well known local mining ninn, returned luvt week front Quartxburg, where lie Iibm tpent the punt twven or eight wei'kn. Speaking In it general wny of tlmt tile trict, Mr. Drown Htuteri tlmt mining wan not ho tlourittliing tliero just ut prencnt in the reHourct'H of tlio ciunp warrant on account of it remoteness niul the dllll eulty of truiifportiition. Some time ago parti cm erected n email Hinelter to reduce tlio orer, but the Hclieme remitted in a failure, for the rent-on that there wen no lluxing materials available. Milling: and concentration, Mr. Brown him decided after an exhaus tive ntinly of theeonditionx, UtlioproiHT method of handling the main bulk of the ores- of the district. The camp can catt ily produce ItKl tonn per day of milling and concentration ore at the prceeut Htage of development, an amount which can be greatly augmented when more work !h iterforiued on the many claimx located and held there. Mr. Hrown Iuih secured eastern capi tal and will erect a llfty-ton milling and concentrating plant at as early a day as pollute. To facilitate this much need ed ndjunct'to the success of that part of the country, liberal Imnuscs in ore have been given the company. Mr. Urown Imh located the water owur of Dixie crook, the only one available in that sec tion. Tlio stream carries 1100 inches at the lowest stage and a fall of 140 feet can be Hecurod which will generate 100- hornu power. The works' to be built will consist of stamps, roll and concen trators. Its capacity will be enlarged just as soon as the output will justify, the company desiring to oierate on a conservative basis. All ores of the section as far as (level oikm! are free milling near the surface, but change into sulphides and carry con siderable copper after the water level is reached. Veins can lie secured there of any width desired, from a few feet up to 100 feet wide. In the Copper King coniuy's prop erty there is considerable obalt. Some samples of this ore were sent to (ho Pan American exKisHiou, at Huffalo, N. V., where they attracted much attention. A party was sent out to the property to secure some of the ore, and the or six weeks ago six tons were shipjNjd to tier many. The Dixie Meadows Mining company owns live locations, which outcrop the entire 7500 feet, showing a vein from twelve to eighteen feet in width. This, Mr. Hrown thinks, is the coming big mine of Oregon. The properly Is being develoted by means of crosscut tunnels. A lower crosscut is now being driven which will develop the vein to a great depth and will be the main avenue through which the property will be worked. In their second crosscut tun nel they have an ore shoot 150 feet in length as far as drifted on and tn feet in width, which will average over 15 )k'- ton. More or less mining has been carried on in the Quartxburg district since 18(12, and in the aggregate a largo quantity of high grade ore has been shipped. The ores consist of gold, silver, copper and cobalt. The only drawbacks which keep the country from being a great producer are the lack of a method of treatment on the ground and the distance from roil way transportation. The former, Mr. Brown and his couiuny will soon sup ply. Quartxhurg is situated forty-one miles southwest of Suiupter, in (irant county. The xistolHce for the district is Comer. The celebrated Guild's "the beer of good cheer" always on draught at Dun phy's The Club. No headaches from (.limit Miwdcr. M I N HOW TO BECOME INTERESTED. We will prove by reiiRntmlilenrgtiineitt and established facts that the opportun ities we offer to become Hissessed of large interests in Oregon mining proper ties cannot ho stirMisecd by anyone. It will not require a fortune, but to the contrary a very small amount of money. Any (htsoii having a few dollars to in vest in an enterprise which has the most encouraging features, and where one person lias no stiHriority or advantage over another, will Hud by addressing the undersigned that these conditions exist. This opportunity will not last long. Tiik AnvAxeu Minimi Co., Lock Hox P. Suiupter, Oregon. xeTici: ton imjhi.ication.
