Wednesday, Aug. 28, 1901 THE SOMPTER'MINER 11 SALE OF THE MANN PLACERS- Bought by Coloardo and MUtourl Capi talittt for $40,000. ' Another large mine, sale waHcpnsum- muted yesterday, und the flrtU payment! on the purchase price will lie made nt the bank at 10 o'clock thin morning. The property cold is the placer and quart, ground belonging to Judge W.W. Trnvilliou and 1'. Mann, situated in the Wintervllle district, near the Honanza mine, and the purchasers tiro .1. A. Dubhs,of Denver, nnd Charles V. Trump, a retired merchant of Kahoka, Missouri. The price paid for the property is kept secret for the present, but' it 1h under stood to be in the neighborhood of 40, 000. This deal wuh piomoted by .1. Mc Corkle, of .Denver, and A. II.. Hunting ton, of Baker City. The property transferred comprises 31X) acres of placer ground, four qutirtjs claims, forty-four mile of ditches and all water rightH in the Wintervllle dis trict, situated in linker and Grant coun ties, near the Hoiiau.a mine, which also include the water rights in the Bonanza district. Tho water rights alone are very valuable, and the placer and quartz claims have made a splendid showing. The purchasers will leuvo for Salt Ijike to-day and incortwirato a company under the laws of Utah for tho operation of the proierty. It is understood that work on tho mines will begin in the near future on a large scale. From reiwrts received there now seems to be more activity in the mining camps about Bonanza than any other section of tho district west of linker. Hobln sonvllle, Wintervllle, Alamo and other camps nt the base of the Oreonhorns are booming, and more men are at work there this year than ever before. John Drummer and J. L. Hunter, lessees of the Worley mine from the Geiser estate, situated near tho Bonanza, and who are using tho Pyx mill of the Geisera near by, came in yesterday with another (I00 clean-up, nnd rotvort things lively in their vicinity, but say thcro have been no more hold-ups about there, and they uro mot looking for gentlemen of that i-tripo, though they are prepared for them. Democrat. Smelter Fume Kill Crop. A press dispatch from Kuoxvllle, Tennessee, says: Judge McCouuoll, sitting nt Cleveland, Tennessee, to-day dissolved injunctions granted two weeks ugo in a ense that involves millions of dollars. At Ducktown, Tennessee, $4, 000,000 have been invested in thecoper industry and two mammoth smelting plants built. About forty farmers claim that their laud has been ruined by the fumes from the plants, destroying nil vegetation. They tiled suits for dam uges and were grunted injunctions two weeks ago, the observance of which prac tically shut down the plants. Three thousand men are employed in the in dustry, und one feature of to-day's heur iug wus the presentation of u monster petition, signed by 8000 citizens of Polk county, asking the dissolution of the in junction. The Tennessee Copercom jinny and tho Ducktown Sulphur, Coe per and Iron company are the cortor ations involved. The former has sent $3,000,000 and employs IJOOO men ; the latter has spent f 1, 000,000, is ready to put in (4,000,000 more and employs 1000 men.
