Kear, recorder of the town of Bourne, was down on business today. Representative Barrett, of Granite, passed through town today on his way home. Mayor Mitchell, of Whitney, came In from Baker City on the afternoon train, bound for home. Mrs. H. S. McCallum returned several days since from Boston, where she went about three months since to visit friends. William Hemls, the mine contractor, came down from the Golconda Monday, to have several small pieces of steel removed from his eye. P. P. Chandler, of the Grant County News, at Canon City, accompanied by Ills wife and child, came In Friday morn lug, en route to Walla Walla. A. P. Goss Is In Canyon City for a week or ten days, looking after the inter ests of his bank there. He was accom panied by Miss iimin.i Starr, of Baker City, who Is visiting friends. Assistant County Attorney Wlnfree was In town yesterday, to prosecute the cases against the Columbia miners, to collect road tax from them. The case was continued until tomorrow. W. II. Gleason came in yesterday from Deer creek, where lie has been doing some work on his mining properties. He says that four Inches of snow fell on the higher peaks In three hours that day. A rich strike Is reported from the Cli max mine, in the Granite district. A in foot ledge of good ore Is said to have been cut there a few days since. Authentic details are not obtainable at tills writing. While under the liillueuce of liquor Sunday, Jim Sutherland had n scrap with John Hart, a nineteen-year old boy, cut ting his face badly and splitting his lip. Justice Felix fined him thirty-five dollars and costs. Secretary W. P. Burllson, of the limp qua company, returned here Sunday from an extended visit to the Ca-ur d'Alenr mining country. Work has been com menced again on the property of his com pany near town. Miss lidua Carleson returned yesterday from a two mouths visit to Pendleton and Spokane, accompanied by Miss Bertha Alexander, of Pendleton. They will go out to the Concord mine today, remaining there several weeks. Miss Agnes Cnuuell returned home several days since after visiting In Ho quiam, Washington, for more than a year. She was accompanied by tier sis ter, Mrs. Taylor, who will spend some weeks with the family. Dr. Wheeler, of Chicago, a brother of Dr. Wheeler, general manager of the St. Anthony mine, near Alamo, is visiting that property. He Is accompanied by several other Chicago capitalists, who are here with a view of investing. No council meeting was held Saturday evening, owing to the fact that a quorum was not present. Aldermen Ellis and Stoddard were in Portland, and some other member of the body failed to show up. An adjourned meeting will be held this evening. Ed. T. Davis, a prominent druggist of Weiser, Idaho, is here visiting Fred R. Walker, manager of the Spokane Drug company's store at this point. It Is more than probable these two young men will conduct the business In their own name at an early day. J. M. McCallum, of Toronto, Canada, is visiting here with his brother, of the Mac's Luck company. He will remain a week or so longer, sight-seeing among (he various mines of the district. Mr. Mc Callum is promlnet in medical circles in eastern Canada. Dr. Pearce has decided to relocate In Sumpter and Is forming a partnership with Dr. Anderson. They will operate the hospital. Mrs. Pearce arrived early in the week. She Is a graduate nurse from the Jefferson medical college, Philadel phia, and has had much hospital experi ence. President Eccles, of the Sumpter Valley road, was In town Monday with a party of dignitaries of the Mormon church, from Salt Lake, Including Abrlel O. Woodruff, who is a member of the twelve apostles, and son of the late President Woodruff, of the Latter Day Saints, and Joseph W. McMurran, who Is one of the first seven presidents of the Seventies.
