12 THE SUMPTER MINER Wednesday, June . 1901 TALK OF THE TOWN Attorney Chance returned from Hot Lake this afternoon, a day ahead of sched ule time. Chaille NoDbins returned home Mon day from Pendleton, where he has been at school all winter. Mrs. S. H. Hell left yesterday after noon for the coast, where she will visit friends for a few weeks. Messrs. Raillie, of the Columbia, and Flood, of the' Golconda, came in from Baker City this afternoon. J. T. Parkinson left for Baker City Saturday, taking his children with him. He will live there in future. Mrs. WeiRand letumed today from Baker City, where she had been to at tend the funeral of her husband. Brick for the completion of the hotel has not yet been delivered. When they will be has not yet been bulletined. William Fleecle, formerly of the Sump ter police department, now one of Whit ney's merchants, was In the city today. James Newlands has gone to Vale, to assist in opening a bank at that place. He will return to Sumpter in about a week. James Kiddell, the tailor, has united forces with Charles B. Ilecht In the mer chant tailoring business in (lie Neill building. Mrs. and Miss Haines, of Baker City, have for several days past been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. 1:111s, at their home on North street. C. II. Fenner will leave tomorrow for Colorado, where he will be engaged for several weeks surveying oil lauds owned by Oregon companies. liugene Hartholf Is out at the Gypsy Queen mine, of which company he Is general manager. A wagon load of sup plies was sent nut to the mine this fore noon. A. M. Klrclilieliner, editor of the Ante lope Republican, passed through town yesterday on his way to Prairie City, to take charge of The Miner there, he hav ing closed the deal for its purchase. Mrs. Miller arrived In Sumpter last week from her home in Salem, and will , spend the summer here with her son, Hoy ' II., cashier of the First Hank of Sumpter. They are living in the Parkinson resl deuce, on Cracker street. A l.ange, who has had charge of the Neill Mercantile company store at Prairie City for the past year, has returned here with his wife and will remain with the same linn at Sumpter, the business at Pralile City having been dlscnn'luued. Jones Brothers, of the Golconda saloon, have sold a half Interest in their place of business to S. ID. Sanders and Miles Fitz gerald, of .Montana, who have recently ar rived lirre. The new comers are young men ot energy and will make friends in their new quarters. A. M. Kettle has been In town this week on business pertaining to the largest placer mining deal which has been formu lated In eastern Oregon for many years, one which he thinks he will "land" at an early day. Dr. Pearce, formerly Interested with Dr. Tape in the hospital here, returned Monday from Pocatello, Idaho, and will resume the practice of medicine for him self. It is not Improbable that he will al so arrange to take charge of the above In stitution, which now seems to be without a head. W. M. Sterling, B. Weatherford and Attorney C. H. McColloch went out to Olive lake Saturday on a fishing trip. They report a very heavy catch of trout for one day's fishing, distributing over 200 among their friends here on their re turn Monday, alter using all they wanted for food while gone.
