VeUer's Smelter Proposition.
The following Is as correct and concise
a statement of the smelter proposition as
it Is possible to give. An agreement has
been entered Into by the Welser board of
trade and Lewis A. Hall and associates,
the substance of which Is, if the people
will purchase and deed to Hall and asso
ciates, 280 acres of land as dsignated
(that Is state land, the price being 1 10
per acre) and further to guarantee the
payment of all taxes on land and plant
when constructed for a term of five years
from date of agreement. The board of
trade has accepted the conditions named
by Mr. Hall, and In consideration of the
fulfillment of them Hall and associates
agree to erect, maintain and operate a
smelter on the ground selected, of a capac
ity sufficient to treat the ores of all dis
tricts that may be tributary to this point.
In addition to the land to be purchased
from the state and paid for by subscrip
tion, Mr. Hall has bought on his own
account, 280 acres and has secured options
on other tracts adjoining. The surveys
necessary for location of tracks and build
ing are now being made. Not all the
funds required have as yet been subscrib;
ed, but only a small amount is now
needed to complete the subsidy asked for.
The general sentiment of the peoole Is
that the location of this Industry will In
time add much more to the business Im
portance of the town of Welser and a nat
ural sequence would be a proportionate
benefit to the country adjacent. Under
the terms of the contract, work must com
mence within 60 days and the plant must
be In operatlon'within one year from date
of agreement Welser Signal.
