TALK OF THE TOWN.
Mrs. Ross came up from Raker City
today, to visit her mother, Mrs. Tedrowe.
Miss Hrechtel, who formerly resided here
with her father, is vlsltine friends for a
few day.
A. B. Winfree, of linker City, deputy
district attorney, was here on legal busi
ness today.
A question of much local interest is
when will work be resumed on the brick
hotel, but no one hereabouts seems to be
able to answer the query.
Eugene Hartholf went to Baker City
yesterday with his brother and William
Kumery, to get them started off right on
their trip to Alaska.
Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Hendricks, of HI
gin, Oregon, who have been visiting Mr.
and Mrs. Kahler, left for home yesterday.
The ladies are sisters.
I D. Healey returned yesterday from
the coast, where he has been for some
weeks past. He says that work will
soon be resumed and pushed on the
Grizzly.
Tom Green, traveling representative of
the Spokane Drug company, Is here on
business today. His house sells nearly
all the goods In its line delivered to Samp
ler and vicinity.
A. C. Little has rented the Clilpp resi
dence, on Columbia street, and will move
his family here at an early day. His two
sons are already in Sumpter, connected
with the Hletrlc Light cnminny.
J. N. Vaullorn, wlm has hern working '
nil winter on a group of claims about three
miles this side of Granite, passed through
town yesterday on his way to Spokane,
where u company will he organized to
further develop the property.
At the home of the bride's parents last
Thursday atteruoou Miss Addle Kitchen
was married to Wallace Cushman, Rev.
D. M. Shannon officiating. Both have
many friends in Similiter who predict and
hope for them a long, prosperous and
happy married lite.
J. N. Hoffman, formerly In business
with Mr. Weigel, of the Sumpter bakery,
lias opened a place of business on Mill
street south of the Golden liagle hotel,
for the m.iuufactuie of Ice cream and con
fectionery. He will put In a water motor
and operate the plant by power, expecting
to do the main buoiness of the town In his
line.
If the Baker City Democrat could hear
the complaints of the crowd waiting ut
the postollice for the morning mall, when
that paper, with the latest, freshest news
(torn the outside world, does not arrive, it
would endeavor to be more regular In
reaching its Sumpter subscribers. This
forenoon Alderman Griffin was on the
war patli because he didn't leceive his
Democrat.
The Mercer drug store Is now being
conducted by l It. Walker, rrptesenting
the Spokane t'rug company, until the
legal complications are set aside next
Tuesday. In conversation with Mr.
Walker, who comes here from the east,
It Is learned that In all probability he will
eventually become a permanent fixture
here, taking over the store for himself or
a company In which he will be Interested.
At any rate, the stock of drugs and sun
dries will be enlarged and made complete
in every respect and the business con
ducted on broader lines than heretofore.
The Capital Hotel Is again under the
management of Mrs. George B. Tedrowe,
which fact guarantees the best of service
to all patrons.
The large and commodious club rooms

for mining and commercial men.
