Gigantic Scheme of Development. 1 he Scandia Mining & Milling Com pany, of Granite, Oregon, Is starting In on a gigantic sclieint of development. The company Is composed of Spokane men, and they are now preparing to ex plore all the undergound ledges of Quebec hill. At a meeting of the shareholders re cently held In Spokane, it was decided to put in power drills and run development work on a lorge scale. The company is now a consolidation of the Scandia Mining company and the Aldrln Tunnel company. The Aldrln Tunnel company, prior to the location of the tunnel rlf.ht, had opened up three strong veins of gold bearing ore, one on the Missouri Girl, one on the Peer less and one on the Rainbow. The as says on the Peerless go from f 2 to $ 3,000 to the ton. The bore of the big tunnel Is seven fret in the clear between (lie tim bers arid is being made tor a double track. One blind vein has been intersected by lite tunnel. The known veins will be cut as follews: Rainbow at 610 feet; the Missouri Girl at 770 feet; Peerless at 800 teet. riie last known vein will be about 2400 feet from the face of the tunnel. Spokesman Review. Final Payment on the Iron Dyke. Yesterday T. B. A. Price, receiver of the North West Railway and Northwest Mining company, owners of the Iron Dyke, Sampson and Copper King mines on Snake river, near Ballard's Landing, through John I.. Rand, his attonery, at the l-'lrst National Bank, Baker City, made the final payment of 94000 on the Sampson and Copper King mines, to Wm. Hunsaker. This gives complete title to the company of all its rich mining properties, which, It Is understood, stand them in about 1 $0,000. It Is relieved, by those In a position to know, that the receiver for the company will push devel opment of the properties In the near fu tureDemocrat. Modern Machinery for the Prairie Digging. Helmer & Hlnes, owners of the Prairie Diggings mine, five miles east of Canyon City, will shortly Install a new 6-foot Johnson concentrator at their 5-stamp mill, and will probably add a roasting furnace. Exhaustive tests of Prarle Dig gings ore have determined Its suscepti bility to the well-known and widely em ployed process of roasting, crushing and concentrating, by which means it is esti mated fully 92 per cent of the total values are saved. Concentration is effected at the rate of 20 tons into one, and the pro duct is worth variously from 9200 to 2,ooo per ton. The ore mills tS to f to a ton in free gold. Grant County News. Famous.
